Tiemeyer Glass
Kenan Tiemeyer has constantly been searching, questioning,
dreaming........ navigating through a life based on images, symbols,
and emotions. His dreams have provided "miles markers"
along the way. The image and symbols have provided a familiar
framework to live with in, and his emotions have kept him grounded
in this reality. It has taken quite a bit of time for Kenan become
comfortable with his path, to fully realize the steps that need
to be taken in order to complete this journey.
In the begining there were many possibilites, many
choices. In the end "Freedom", "Creativity",
"Independence", and "Love" would emerge as
central themes in Kenan's journey.
Kenan Tiemeyer began this experience in December of
1975. He spent his childhood in Grand Haven, Michigan. He is the
oldest of 13 children and the child of 2 well rounded, consciencous,
loving parents - Brian and Arlene Tiemeyer. Even though his childhood
was not perfect, the concepts of "Independance", hard
work, and "Family", were planted with in him at a young
age. Life on the shores of Lake Michigan provided a perfect start
to a life where a respect for nature's energy and human "consciousness"
could be seeded and frutate a journey of individual awareness
and love of the "whole" experience.
Although Kenan had little desire to attend college
the opportunity to take advantage of scholarships and grants brought
him to Grand Valley State University in 1994. A desire to create
visual stories and communicate the subtle points of the human
experience led Kenan to earn a BA degree in Communications with
an emphasis in Film and Video production. Always searching, always
questioning, and striving for independence he soon realized that
there was no way he was going to be able to express himself as
an individual in the all consuming - "ass kissing" -
world of film / tv production.
As part of his continual persuit for "Independance
Experience" Kenan's desire to escape the influences of city
life led him and his new wife to the Blue Ridge Mountains of south
western Virginia in the first days of 2000. Soon the art of lampworked
glass found him. After learning the fundamentals of glass work
from a friend the desire to be a "Creator" began to
fuel his journey. Since then he has spent the last 9 years working,
primarilly alone, abosrbing the many hours that it takes to learn
the technical aspects of lampworking, decifering the "language
of glass", reflecting on the essence of exsistance / consciouness,
and coming to terms with the concept that "Everyone is a
Creator" while dealing with the ever present question - "What
are You Creating?"
Kenan feels blessed to be living in the ancient beauty
of the Blue Ridge Mountains while enjoying the presence of a inspirational
wife, 2 wonderful children, and the freedom of being able to work
with in the ultra modern / limitless / timeless medium of flameworked
borosilicate glass. He hopes that the years will continue to bring
blessings of "Freedom", "Independance", "Understanding"
and Love to him and his family. May you enjoy his glass manifestations.
